Abstract:

This webinar will outline the recent changes in the field of behavior analysis as well as the world at large related to diversity and inclusion. There will be a discussion of the most recent Ethics Code for Behavior Analysts (which includes area 1.07 Cultural Responsiveness and Diversity) , how to remain to adhere to new ethical standards while also navigating this current climate. The webinar also examine ways to increase cultural responsiveness in various areas of behavior analytic practice and how diversity, equity, inclusion and access based services have a positive impact on the clients we serve including their access to the community leading to independence and an improved quality of life. For example, to incorporate culturally competent care into ABA programming, consider include family values during assessment such as self-care, feeding, sleep, toileting, etc. Selecting goals targeted for both and increase and decrease should be aligned with the client and family’s values to achieve best outcomes, generalization as well as social validity. Also, Cultural Responsiveness Classroom Management provides all students with equitable opportunities for learning classroom management in the service of social justice.

Objectives:

1: Participants will be able to describe how DEI initiatives impact those delivering behavior analytic services as well as those receiving them.

2: Participants will be able to identify how incorporating cultural responsiveness can increase treatment outcomes.

3: Participants will be able to define culturally responsive treatment recommendations for behaviors targeted for increase and/or decrease.
